EMPATHY VIA EXPERIENCE.

I stopped by a friend's place on my way home from work, and we engaged in a pleasant conversation. During our chat, she recounted a story about her sister's cough issues, which I was already aware of.

She explained that her sister had been prescribed a particular cola to consume regularly, but she was neglecting it and avoiding it altogether. Out of frustration, my friend decided to taste the cola herself to show that it wasn't a big deal. But, with just one bite, she immediately understood the situation, disposed of the rest, and instructed her sister to avoid it entirely.

This experience amused me, as I've encountered similar situations in my role as my sister's personal nurse. There are certain experiences, particularly pains, that one can only comprehend through firsthand experience.

Personally, I refrain from forming opinions on matters I haven't experienced firsthand. It's impossible to fully understand something until you've experienced it yourself, just like my friend's realization.

As a poet I once admired said, "What you don't touch, can't burn." Therefore, claiming to understand someone's grief after losing a parent when you haven't experienced such loss yourself is absurd. As Mr. Pojo would say, "Oga you don't know how it feels".

Dear reader, can you relate to this? Have you ever underestimated someone's emotions due to lack of experience, only to be proven wrong when you encountered a similar situation yourself?
