"I'm fine."
An everyday lie.
Hey there!
The best part of today was spending time with a friend of mine at the stadium. It was such an amazing time, and I gained so much from the conversation.
As a very good writer and of the same age group, we got to talk about our worries, difficulties in writing, stuff encountered as teenagers, and so on.
I realized that we aren't really 'fine' as we say on WhatsApp. We aren't doing as well as our WhatsApp status portrays or our well-polished writing suggests.
Stepping gradually into adulthood isn't a joke; it comes with waves of depression that nobody speaks about. The older generation doesn't see a reason for this, so we shove our feelings and bury our uncertainties in sarcasm.
To the point that the question, "How are you doing?" has adapted to having one specific response. "I'm fine" has become the generally accepted lie we tell because it's quite a task to express honestly the void inside.
Dearest reader, hanging out with someone who can relate was truly inspiring. Sometimes all the reassurance we need is the idea that we aren't in this alone. As crazy as it sounds, we often crave the knowledge that it's not just us.
